NCATE Accreditation

The National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) is a national organization whose six standards must be met in order for teacher licensure programs to be accredited. We recently underwent a successful NCATE visit in October, 2009. The NCATE team determined that Ohio University’s Education Unit met all six NCATE standards. Our next NCATE visit will be in the fall of 2014.

Since 1954, the Ohio University Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education has been accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educator preparation programs. NCATE is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit programs for the preparation of teachers and other professional school personnel.
