Principal Preparation Program

EDAD studentsThe Principal Preparation Program is Nationally Recognized by the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC). The Principal Preparation
Program provides, via a balanced approach of on-line and in-class instruction, course work and internships required for obtaining a master’s degree in educational administration and/or an Ohio principal’s license. The program’s graduates tend to do exceptionally well on the required Praxis test, to be employed as administrators based upon the strong reputation of the program, and to be successful once they become principals.

Typically, three cohorts of the Principal Preparation Program operate concurrently. They include (1) an Athens Campus Cohort, (2) a Chillicothe/Southern Campus Cohort, and (3) a cohort comprising a combination of two of the following four campuses: Eastern, Lancaster, Pickerington, and Zanesville.

The program involves two years, eight quarters of studies. For this reason, cohorts begin studies in the summer quarter on an every other year basis. They typically begin in even-numbered years, e.g. 2010, 2012, and 2014.

Principal cohort
The master’s degree portion of the program can be completed in five quarters. Three more quarters are needed to complete the balance of the licensure coursework.

The cohorts meet for a total of 9 times on Saturdays between September and the first part of June (i.e. during the fall, winter, and spring quarters). During the summer quarter, the cohorts meet two times per week for 8 weeks.

The program provides its students with an opportunity to become knowledgeable in a substantive manner about the operation of a school. This objective is addressed with consideration that the students are nearly all current school teachers with other responsibilities.

For admission requirements and application procedures, please refer to "ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS & APPLICATION PROCEDURES."
