Principal Preparation Program

EDAD studentsThe Principal Preparation Program is Nationally Recognized by the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC). Through a balanced approach of on-line and in-class instruction, the program offers course work and internships required for obtaining a master’s degree in educational administration and/or an Ohio principal’s license. Program graduates tend to do exceptionally well on the required Praxis test, to be employed as administrators based upon the strong reputation of the program, and to be successful once they become principals.

Typically, multiple cohorts of the Principal Preparation Program operate concurrently. They include (1) an Athens Campus Cohort, (2) a Chillicothe/Southern Campus Cohort, (3)  a Pickerington Center Cohort. The Chillicothe/Southern Cohort and the Pickerington Center Cohort usually begin on even number years and the Athens Cohort begins on odd numbered years.

The program involves two calendar years of studies. Studies typically begin in the summer quarter/semester on an every other year basis. New cohorts typically begin in even-numbered years (e.g., 2010, 2012, and 2014).

The master’s degree portion of the program can be completed by the end of the second summer of study. Another academic year is needed to complete the balance of the licensure coursework.

Each of the  cohorts meets for a total of 9 times on Saturdays between the period from September to the first part of June (i.e., during the school year). During the summer, each of the cohorts typically meets two times per week for 8 weeks.

The program provides its students with an opportunity to become knowledgeable in a substantive manner about the operation of a school. This objective is addressed with consideration that the students are nearly all current school teachers with other responsibilities.
