The Instructional Technology (IT) program at Ohio University prepares professionals for technology leadership positions in K-12 schools, higher education, community colleges and industry.

The Instructional Technology program serves professional educators as well as those involved in instructional design, development, and training in government and the private sector. The Instructional Technology program emphasizes the knowledge and skills needed to apply a wide range of technologies in achieving educational goals within schools, community and corporate/public settings.

Recognizing the variety of technology positions available globally due to the rapidly changing face of technology, the Instructional Technology program provides three career paths:

Doctor of Philosophy in Instructional Technology
The Doctoral Program in Instructional Technology combines the theoretical framework of instructional design and cognitive science at an advanced level, preparing individuals for intellectual and practitioner technology leadership positions at the state, national and international arenas.

Master of Education in Computer Education and Technology
The NCATE accredited M.Ed. Degree Program in Computer Education and Technology is designed in an online/weekend format to bring flexibility and convenience to students while maintaining a face-to-face connection. Courses meet on weekends 3 times each quarter while the remaining instruction is conducted online. The program provides studies in the use of technology to improve teaching and learning and student achievement. The program includes a strong instructional design and visual design component for those interested in positions in industry or web-based curriculum design.

Professional Instructional Design Certificate
The Professional Instructional Design Certificate is an entirely online format that serves individuals with the desire to transition into or expand their knowledge of instructional design. The series prepares participants to develop theory-driven instructional materials and strategies for traditional, hybrid and online adult learning environments. Completion of the series requires 14 semester hours of graduate credit. Up to 12 hours can be accepted as progress toward completion of the M.Ed. program in Computer Education and Technology or 8 hours toward the Ph.D. in Instructional Technology should the student wish to apply.

Computer Technology Endorsement Only
K-12 teachers already holding a professional teaching license may apply for a multi-age Computer Technology Endorsement which may be added to their teaching license at the completion of approved coursework. This provides the K-12 teacher with an opportunity to move into instruction in the area of computer literacy and computer education in Ohio classrooms.
