Logan Hocking MCE PDS Partnership

Logan-Hocking Middle School is comprised of grades five through eight and is a true middle school. The school district is one of the largest in the area. However, the majority of the school district is rural, and around 60% of the students qualify for free and reduced lunch.

The partnership with Ohio University allows for OU students to visit, work and collaborate with the LHMS teachers and administrators. In addition, OU students are able to work with LHMS students individually, in small groups and in large groups.

“I have been able to experience the “nitty-gritty” of teaching that professors do not teach you in a college classroom. In addition, I have received professional development tips and advice that will make me a better teacher in the future,” said Ce’Nedra Cyrus, senior OU student.

OU students are able to observe a variety of grade levels and classes during their three quarters here at LHMS. In addition, there are many extra curricular activities that the OU students can observe as well, such as sports, clubs, choral music groups and band.

When OU students come and observe, they will be expected to help struggling students, grade papers, make bulletin boards, work with small groups, teach large groups, etc.

The school district has been deemed Excellent by the Ohio Department of Education. The LHMS teachers strive for excellence in their classrooms, and the OU students can help with this endeavor.
