East READ Partnership for Middle Childhood

field experiences at local schools.

Reaching Excellence and Achievement through Diversity.

The East Partnership for Middle Childhood offers a continuous cohort placement for the junior year. The East PDS Partnership has a long and rich history with Ohio University and has hosted Partnership Teacher Candidates for a number of years.

Information about East Elementary School

  • East practices the philosophies of Integrated Thematic Instruction, Multiple Intelligences, and Responsive Classroom
  • East is known as an international school offering English as a Second Language for students representing 31 countries and speaking 17 languages
  • East is a neighborhood school within the city limits housing grades K-6, along with Hearing Impaired, Multi-Handicapped, and H.O.T.S. (higher order thinking skills) classrooms
  • East has many volunteers from the community compiling approximately 4500 volunteer hours per year
  • East has ongoing enrichment programs such as, Helping Hands, Foreign Language classes, Lego Logos, school magazine, an active P.T.O., and a yearly dinner theatre with entertainment is provided by our student body
  • East’s close proximity to Ohio University has enabled the school and university to take part in various partnerships since 1975
