Representatives from The Patton College to present at 2011 AERA Annual Meeting
ATHENS, Ohio (March 31, 2010) – The American Education Research Association (AERA) will hold its Annual Meeting from April 8-12 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The meeting, themed “Inciting the Social Imagination: Education Research for the Public Good,” will feature presentations from numerous education professionals regarding research in the field as well as professional development. Many of those presentations will come from faculty, staff and students of The Patton College. In total, 21 representatives from the College will be making presentations (in many instances, more than once) at the Annual Meeting, which makes a significant statement about the quality of research being conducted at the College. “Because AERA is the premier research conference in the field of education, it’s very exciting to see that so many of our faculty, staff and students will be participating this year,” said Dr. Aimee Howley, senior associate dean at The Patton College. “The conference uses a rigorous review process; selection of a paper is hardly guaranteed.” Dr. Howley explained that presenting a paper at the conference helps participants ready their work for submission to peer-reviewed journals. At the same time, the presentations will also expose attendees to the high-quality research being conducted at The Patton College, helping boost its prestige and reputation within the industry. Jim Salzman, who serves as executive director of the Literacy Center with the College, will be making three presentations at the conference, each of which is special to him for different reasons. Salzman knows what an honor it is to have a submission accepted and is looking forward to the conference. “In short, AERA allows researchers to mentor the next generation of scholars, network with their peers and colleagues, and benefit from the critiques and discussions of others,” Salzman said.
