David Horton is recognized for his outstanding work
ATHENS, Ohio - David Horton, a newly appointed assistant professor within the Department of Counseling and Higher Education, won the 2009 Outstanding Paper/Dissertation Award from the Southeastern Association for Community College Research (SACCR). In addition to receiving this award, SACCR invited Horton to be the featured luncheon speaker at their conference in Lexington, Kentucky. “I am truly honored to receive such an award and to have my work recognized by SACCR,” Horton said, after receiving his award. “I am equally honored and excited to represent Ohio University and our department next month at SACCR's annual conference.” Horton comes to The Patton College of Education from Dallas Baptist University, where he was an adjunct professor in The Patton College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Florida, which is where he completed his dissertation, “Comparative study of the persistence and academic success of Florida community college student-athletes and non-athlete students: 2004 to 2007.” “The search committee was very impressed by David's potential to become an outstanding scholar,” said Bob Young, a professor in Counseling and Higher Education.“Now, his scholarship is receiving support from the research community at-large. David has earned a major honor and the opportunity to share his knowledge with colleagues across many states. He may have been at the university for only two weeks, but David Horton is already an award winning member of our faculty.”
