Patton College Hosts Youth Soccer Camp, Coaches from Around the World
ATHENS, OHIO (July 7, 2011, Athens, OH) The last week of June was a special week at The Patton College of Education and Health and Human Services, and especially for local kids in grades 1-8. For $45, they participated in a four-day soccer camp, and it was far from an average soccer camp. Dr. David Carr, in partnership with Gerard Akindes and others, procured a $225,000 grant to bring together coaches from Ghana, South Africa and Senegal with American coaches and students to instruct local kids. In this case, according to Dr. Carr, “soccer (was) the vehicle to bring people together,” not the other way around. Story by Mary Gillam; Photos by Mark Brunton.
