Patton The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education and Human Services and Human Services
Associate Professor Barbara Trube assumes new responsibilities July 1
ATHENS, Ohio (May 4, 2010) - Effective July 1, 2010, Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education Barbara Trube will assume new responsibilities as the Assistant Dean for Academic Engagement and Outreach for the Gladys W. and David H. Patton The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education and Human Services and Human Services (coe). The Patton College’s new name will also become effective July 1. Trube, who currently works at Ohio University’s Chillicothe campus, will play a critical role in the Patton College. Her responsibilities will include working with CEHS faculty and administrators to formulate, implement and monitor strategies on behalf of The Patton College’s engagement and outreach mission. “Today, academic colleges that prepare education and human service professionals are charged at both the federal and state levels with finding new ways to prepare and engage the learner to meet the changing needs of schools, communities, institutions and the broader public,” said The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education and Human Services Dean Renée A. Middleton. “The Assistant Dean for Academic Engagement and Outreach (ADAEO) will play a vital role in supporting and fostering outreach engagement efforts involving teaching, scholarship and service.” Trube brings a breadth of experience to the position, including more than 25 years as a teacher, principal and professor; and she is eager to begin working to accomplish The Patton College’s outreach goals. “As Assistant Dean for Academic Engagement and Outreach I will be able to work with dynamic leadership teams and colleagues on identifying proactive steps toward becoming a more engaged university in our region,” she said. “These efforts will include strategically supporting and facilitating the expansion of on-line learning. I am excited and honored to work on behalf of Dean Renée Middleton's vision of Ohio University as an engaged university.” Dan Evans, Ohio University Executive Dean of Regional Campuses, is confident that Trube will have a significant impact in her new position. “Dr. Trube brings an ideal perspective to this position,” he said. “From her time on one of the university’s regional campuses, she especially understands the importance of providing residents of this region with access to a quality educational experience that prepares them for a changing job market.” Richard Bebee, Dean of Ohio University-Chillicothe, also thinks Trube is well-suited for her new role. “During her time at Ohio University-Chillicothe, she has proven to be a true colleague who engages individuals across campus with diverse backgrounds and viewpoints toward the common goal of providing our students with an exceptional educational experience,” he said. “Her experience on the Chillicothe Campus, which is focused on serving its students and serving its region, should be of particular value in her new role with the university.” Trube received the A.A. in Liberal Arts from Tyler Junior College in 1966, the B.S. in Elementary Education from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1975 and the M.Ed. in Health and Physical Education from the University of Texas at Tyler in 1982. She also holds M.Ed. degrees in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin and Early Childhood Education from the University of Texas at Tyler, and the Ed.D. in Educational Administration with a concentration in Special Education, from the University of Texas at Austin. Trube has published a number of articles on topics such as English immersion, conflict management in education and the transition from preschool to kindergarten. She has been featured as a presenter at various conferences and workshops across the country and in China, Italy and Russia. Story by Heather Anerino
