Patton College to auction artwork of Crooksville students Nov. 7

Proceeds to support artists and schools

Art Auction

Crooksville students talk about their artwork at May unveiling

Five months after having their artwork displayed in McCracken Hall by the Patton College of Education, Crooksville Exempted Village School district students, grades 1-12, will bring their masterpieces to the Kennedy Museum of Art.

The college's fifth-annual student silent art auction starts at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, in the second floor gallery of the Museum. It will feature 34 original pieces of art from the Crooksville students and bids start at $15.

The winning bids will be announced at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds will be split evenly between the student who produced the work and his or her school's art program.

The Patton College of Education has been hosting and auctioning off works from surrounding schools since 2007, but this marks the first time the auction will be held at the Kennedy Museum.

Patton College Dean Renée A. Middleton began the art exhibition in order to recognize the talent and enthusiasm of local teachers and students.

"By holding an art exhibition and auction each year, we are able to foster deeper relationships between The Patton College and area schools," Middleton said. "This year, we are particularly excited and proud to be able to display these students' works in a forum as well known and respected as the Kennedy Museum of Art."

The mission of the auction is to support the efforts of local education agencies to meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of the student artist by encouraging and highlighting their creative abilities and talents.

Last year's event raised more than $1,500. The Patton College hopes to exceed that number this year.

The Kennedy Museum of Art's education curator, Sally Delgado, will oversee the auction.

"It has been wonderful to have student artwork on exhibit at the Kennedy Museum of Art, and we are looking forward to hosting the Crooksville community the night of the auction," Delgado said. "We are also pleased that Keeley Miller, the Crooksville art teacher, has coordinated a visit to the museum with her high school students to tour the Jim Dine: Sculpture and Large Prints exhibition as well as the work by Crooksville Exempted Village Schools."

Past schools that have participated include The Plains, Miller High School, Athens High School, Morgan County's South Elementary and Middle Schools, Meigs Middle School, Chauncey, Chieftain, Hocking Hills and Morrison Elementary.
