Dr. Kern Alexander, Professor of Excellence in the field of Educational and Organizational Administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was been named as the Ohio University 2008 Samuel I. Hicks Executive-in-Residence.

Dr. Alexander started his career at the United States Office of Education before moving into university teaching. He served as Professor of Educational Administration at the University of Florida for almost twenty years, and later as University Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Virginia Tech.

He has been President of Western Kentucky University and Murray State University, also in Kentucky, and he continues to take an active role in lawsuits involving equity in school finance. Dr. Alexander is a widely published author in the fields of education law and finance. He has authored or co-authored several books and many chapters and articles.
The Samuel I. Hicks Executive-in-Residence program was established through The Ohio University Foundation in 1976 to honor Dr. Samuel I. Hicks, professor emeritus of educational administration at Ohio University. The purpose of the fund is to recognize outstanding leaders in education. Hicks, who died in 1999, dedicated more than 75 years to teaching, research and educational administration. His extraordinary devotion, achievement and service on behalf of higher education reflect the spirit with which the Hicks Executive-in-Residence award is presented.
