Grant writing workshop provides valuable information to students, faculty and staff
ATHENS, Ohio (March 30, 2010) –Dr. Aimee Howley, Sr. Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, and Mr. Rick Huard, Research Grants Development Coordinator, presented a special grant writing workshop for graduate students of The Patton College on March 4, The presentation included information on different types of grants, sources of funding and how to put together the basic elements of a grant proposal (i.e. justification, objectives, activities, management plan, capacity statement and budget). In a time when budgets are dwindling, it is more important than ever to have grant writing as a skill. According to Huard, not only is grant writing marketable, but it is a great skill to utilize in order to supplement funds for research or classroom needs. Ohio University has been putting more resources into grant writing education and other colleges periodically conduct workshops, but The Patton College goes the extra step of employing a full-time staff member to offer assistance to students, faculty or staff who are writing or wish to write grants. The presentation offered numerous resources for grant writing help and resources for which to apply. The University’s library provides access to many search engines and databases for free. You can view the presentation slides for more information or contact Rick Huard at huard@ohio.edu or (740) 597-9007.
